This instrumental track features the wonderful guitar playing of Leo Nocentelli, a former member of The Meters. The melody is based on a simple pentatonic scale played on bass and guitar, while the drum part is a complex linear pattern. They didn’t call them The Funky Meters” for nothing!

Drums: Joseph “Ziggy” Modeliste uses Sabian cymbals, DW drums, Vic Firth drumsticks, and Evans heads. DW Collector's Series Maple Drums, 18x22 Bass Drum, 5x14 Collector's Maple Snare, 8x10, 13x16 Tom-Toms

Guitar: Leo Nocentelli uses Gibson ES-335 guitars. He now endorses MESA/Boogie amps, but Cissy Strut was recorded before Mesa began production in 1969. The amp on the record was probably a Fender combo.
