One of Michael Jackson’s most critically acclaimed singles, it was number 1 in the R&B singles chart for nine weeks. It has won Grammy awards and in 2005 was considered the greatest song since 1980 by Blender Magazine. It was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson and features one of the most recognizable bass lines ever!

Guitar: Played by David Williams, this guitar track was used on the demo version of the song. They couldn’t improve on it, so they used it in the final master. Engineer Bruce Swedien doesn’t recall what guitar was used, but it was probably a Strat or Telecaster DI’ed into the desk with a little chorus and compression.

Bass: Louis Johnson played bass on this track. His signature sound comes from one of the first MusicMan Stingray basses, made for him by Leo Fender.

Drums: Leon N’Dugu Chancler was the drummer. He uses Paiste cymbals and Yamaha drums. His signature Yamaha drum kit consists of these pieces:

SD-255NC 14" x 5.5" Snare Drum
Ndugu Chancler Sig. Series
ABD-1022 22" x 16" Bass Drum
ATT-Custom 6" x 6" Tom
ATT-1008J 8" x 7" Tom
ATT-1010J 10" x 7.5" Tom
