Garry Mulholland

Garry Mulholland began his career in music journalism in 1993, overseeing the jazz column for legendary black British music mag Echoes. After writing features and reviews for the likes of The NME, Select, The Guardian and The Independent, he joined the staff of London’s Time Out in 1995, going on to serve as Deputy Music Editor, Music Editor and Contributing Editor over the next seven years. His first book, This Is Uncool: The 500 Greatest Singles Since Punk And Disco, was published by Cassell Illustrated in 2001, received across-the-board good reviews, and was called ’The finest book this century’ by Julie Burchill in The Guardian, and ’A Bible for music fans’ by Tim Lovejoy of Soccer AM. The follow-up, Fear Of Music: The 261 Greatest Albums Since Punk, was published by Orion in November 2006, and Garry continues to write for Q, The Observer Music Monthly and The Evening Standard, as well as DJ-ing in Brighton at Dirty Weekend at The Ocean Rooms, The Dirty Social at the legendary Prince Albert, and Top Ranking and Honky Tonk at The Forager in Hove. He’s currently writing his first TV script, and his third book, Popcorn: 50 Years Of Rock & Roll Movies, which is due to be published in Spring 2008.
